Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) Leased Lines
Generic Ethernet Access (GEA); The lowest cost solution for a dedicated, secure connection. Up to 19Mbps speeds.
Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) / EoFTTC Leased Lines
The acronyms sound complicated but Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) or EoFTTC (Ethernet over Fibre-to-the-Cabinet) basically mean you’ll get a cost-effective connectivity solution.
GEA or EoFTTC uses the existing copper or fibre cables to connect your business to the nearest green street cabinet and then, from there, a dedicated Ethernet over fibre line carries your data to the core network.
With your Ethernet over fibre and generic Ethernet access, you’ll get guaranteed symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 19Mbps along with unlimited data usage.
In simple terms, GEA/EoFTTC is a high velocity, hybrid solution that gives businesses the speed and bandwidth of Ethernet for a business broadband price point.
If you’ve got up to 20 users and want a cost-effective way to enjoy Ethernet capabilities, look no further than GEA or EoFTTC.

Why Superfast for Generic Ethernet Access?
Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) is an entry-level form of Ethernet connectivity that harnesses copper technology between the premises and the cabinet and then fibre to the exchange, before handing data over to the ethernet network.
Businesses have a variety of speed, cost, and availability criteria and GEA enhances that choice, sitting between a Leased Line and FTTC & combining the performance and tight SLAs of a Leased Line but with the affordability and install time associated with FTTC.
By utilising copper and fibre as the initial transit technology, costs and installation times are much lower than other Ethernet-based connectivity technologies. GEA offers symmetric speeds of 19Mbps making it a sound option for smaller sites, branches and high-demand homeworkers.
The ability to handle data, voice and video using just a single circuit reduces not only cost but also complexity.
Who can get GEA / EoFTTC ?
Almost every business is now able to access fibre via GEA. The nearer you are to a town or city, the lower the cost and the more chance there will be of a viable route to get GEA into your building.
The majority of the UK is now covered but there will always be a few problem areas which may require the exploration of other technologies such as 5G.
If you live in the middle of a field surrounded by nothing then you still may be able to get a GEA connection however, our providers always cover their backs with something known as “excess construction charges”. These charges are essentially passed on to the customer if they exceed a certain level.
If excess construction charges are identified and you do not want to pay these fees, at this point you are able to simply cancel the order and explore other options.
We look at every order request individually so normally we are able to add excess charges on to your monthly bill over the term of your contract which gives us a lot more flexibility than the majority of providers in the UK.
How long does is take to install ?
There are a number of factors that can impact the time it takes to implement a GEA connection so while we indicate that it will take on average 16-18 working days, in reality this will depend on the outcome of any site surveys we conduct and whether any works are needed that will require the input of outside agencies, such as local councils or landlords.
The good news is that as we manage the provisioning process ourselves. Your dedicated account manager along side our provisioning team will be able to keep you updated on the progress of the order makes its way through the process up until connection.
How fast is GEA / EoFTTC ?
A GEA connection is able to provide speeds of 19Mbps in both directions (synchronous upload and download speeds.
If you require faster speeds or have a requirement to increase speeds in the future then you most likely require a Fibre Ethernet Leased Line which can provide much faster speeds and which are normally suitable for every business of every size.
What equipment is needed ?
With all our Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) connections we provide top of the range Cisco routers (or equivalent) which are delivered to you pre-configured out of the box for you or your IT team to simply “plug and play”.
If a router that we’ve provided for Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) fails, we’ll arrange for a pre-configured replacement to be couriered to your business site on the next working day.
Replacements will be made on a like-for-like basis.
Our price promise!
We work with every single top tier provider in the UK and offer a price promise guarantee when you order a Leased Line from us.
If you find a cheaper quote elsewhere, simply let us know. If it’s a “like for like” proposal, we will do our best to beat it for you!

It doesn’t. Like other connectivity services, you’ll need to arrange separate lines for data and voice services.
