Invest in a Point to Point Leased Line

A point to point leased line has a few other names such as PPPoE or P2P. It simply allows you to connect two sites together over a secure, dedicated line. This allows you to extend your business network (WAN) across two locations with a secure, fast and reliable data transfer.

One of the decisions you will make about your Point to Point Ethernet solution is the amount of bandwidth you want, this can range from 10 Mbps to speeds of 1 Gbps, depending on what your business needs.

Because you are not sharing your line with other users (it has a 1:1 contention ratio) you get guaranteed speed both up and down stream, reduced buffering and lag in video conferencing and VoIP technologies.

What is a Point to Point?

A Point to Point Leased Line is required to connect two buildings together, providing a highly reliable, high speed dedicated network between them.

With a dedicated connection between multiple sites (with a maximum distance of 28 miles apart), your data will be more secure, performance will be more reliable, and using VoIP connectivity, you’ll make big savings on inter-site calls.

A Point to Point Leased Line can also be used to connect key user locations to an off-site data centre which may be key to some businesses but not necessary for many.  Point to Point connections are typically delivered over fibre ethernet and provide symmetrical download and upload speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

How long does a Point to Point take to install?

There are a number of factors that can impact the time it takes to implement a Point to Point Leased Line so while we indicate that it will take on average 50-60 working days, in reality this will depend on the outcome of any site surveys we conduct and whether any works are needed that will require the input of outside agencies, such as local councils or landlords.

Surveys need to be conducted at both premises but the good news is that as we manage the provisioning process ourselves. Your dedicated account manager along side our provisioning team will be able to keep you updated on the progress of the order makes its way through the process up until connection.

How fast can our Point to Point services go?

Point to Point Leased Lines are able to provide speeds ranging from 10 Mbps right the way up to 10 Gbps depending on the location and the application required by you, the customer!

The most common speed in the UK at time of writing (May 2019) is 100 Mbps but as data hungry applications, software and telephone systems evolve this will likely rise to the standard becoming 1 Gbps within the next decade.

What equipment is needed?

Point to Point Leased Lines are typically delivered as a “wires only” solution with your IT team providing the hardware and firewalls in between.  However, we provide you with the option of providing Cisco routers (or equivalent) which are delivered to you pre-configured to connect the service between your sites.

If a router that we’ve provided fails, we’ll arrange for a pre-configured replacement to be couriered to your business site on the next working day. Replacements will be made on a like-for-like basis.

Our price promise!

We work with every single top tier provider in the UK and offer a price promise guarantee when you order a Point to Point Leased Line from us. If you find a cheaper quote elsewhere, simply let us know. If it’s a “like for like” proposal, we will do our best to beat it for you!
